"oneLine": "Standard Padé approximants to a Stieltjes series keep every pole on the branch cut, but Weniger's delta transformation does not: for every Stieltjes measure its denominator is real-rooted at orders one and two, at order three exactly when n + β ≤ (√33 − 5)/2, and from order four never, refuting Borghi's 2026 conjecture.",
"abstract": "A Stieltjes function is analytic off the negative real axis, its branch cut, and its asymptotic series often diverges. The standard (diagonal and near-diagonal) Padé approximants, the classical summation tool, place their poles on the cut. Weniger's delta transformation is often much faster on such series, and Borghi (Mathematics 14 (2026) 376) conjectured that its denominator, too, has only negative real zeros for every Stieltjes moment sequence. This candidate shows that the conjecture is false and says exactly when it holds. Call an order k and shift b = n + β (starting index n, shift β > 0) universally safe if the delta denominator has only negative real zeros for every admissible measure. Orders one and two are safe for every shift; order three is safe exactly when b ≤ (√33 − 5)/2 ≈ 0.3723, so the standard choice n = 0, β = 1 is unsafe; from order four no starting index or shift is safe, and for each fixed starting index a single measure gives genuine nonreal poles at order four for every shift. The mechanism is short: positive moments can be tuned so that only three consecutive coefficients of the denominator matter, and from order four the delta weights fail the classical factor-four test for those three. The nonreal zeros are genuine poles, not cancelled by the numerator. For one fixed three-part measure at n = 0, β = 1 the paper proves that nonreal denominator zeros occur at every sufficiently large order, and certifies genuine nonreal poles exactly at every order from 3 to 30; genuine poles at every order is left as a conjecture. On the positive side, real-rootedness holds at every order when Borghi's auxiliary polynomial is real-rooted, when the reciprocal moments form a multiplier sequence, or when the moment ratios μ_{r+1}/μ_r increase at least fourfold at each step; and the delta denominator is real-rooted for every shift exactly when Borghi's auxiliary polynomial is. This extends to every n, β and k the cases Borghi proved at n = 0, β = 1 (integer superfactorial, Laguerre and integer-difference Jacobi moments) and covers the Euler series, all Γ(ℓ + a) moments and log-normal moments with σ² ≥ 2 log 2. Exact rational-arithmetic certificates accompany every finite claim; pole locations, residues and accuracy examples are numerical and illustrative. AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",

    "Order–shift classification: for every Stieltjes measure the delta denominator Q_k has only negative real zeros at orders k = 1 and 2 for every shift; at k = 3 exactly when b = n + β ≤ (√33 − 5)/2 ≈ 0.3723; for k ≥ 4 never, for any n ≥ 0 and β > 0 (Theorem 4.1, proof).",
"Borghi's conjecture is false already at his normalisation n = 0, β = 1 and order three, and every counterexample lies in his scenario (ii), where the auxiliary polynomial P_k has nonreal zeros (proof; exact Sturm counts).",
"Mechanism: positive moments can isolate any three consecutive reciprocal-moment coefficients, so Q_k behaves like a quadratic h_{j−1} + h_j z + h_{j+1} z²; the delta weights fail the factor-four test h_j² ≥ 4h_{j−1}h_{j+1} from order four (Theorem 3.2, proof).",
"The nonreal zeros are genuine poles; an explicit order-three measure δ₁ + 50δ_{1/50} + 10⁻³e^{−t}dt gives a nonreal pair near −0.8832 ± 0.0824i, one explicit order-four measure defeats every shift for n = 0 and n = 1 (exact certificates; locations numerical), and for each fixed n some measure gives genuine nonreal poles at order four for every shift (Corollary 5.2, proof).",
"Persistence for one fixed measure: Q_k(w/k²) converges to an entire function, which forces nonreal denominator zeros at every sufficiently large order; genuine nonreal poles are certified exactly at every order from 3 to 30, and genuine poles at every order k ≥ 3 is conjectured (Theorems 6.1, 6.3, Conjecture 6.4).",
"Positive theorem: real-rootedness holds at every order and shift if Borghi's P_k is real-rooted, if the reciprocal moments form a multiplier sequence, or if μ_{r−1}μ_{r+1} ≥ 4μ_r²; this extends Borghi's n = 0, β = 1 results and covers Euler, Γ(ℓ + a), integer superfactorial, integer-exponent Beta and log-normal (σ² ≥ 2 log 2) moments (Theorem 7.2, Corollary 7.3, proof); conversely, Q_k is real-rooted for every shift if and only if P_k is, and a non-integer Jacobi weight gives genuine nonreal poles at β = 20 (Remark 7.4, proof; exact certificate).",
"Natural families from Borghi's catalogue are real-rooted in 975 exact Sturm counts at orders 4 to 8 on a grid of n and β (certificate).",
"Practical layer: nonreal poles sit near the cut with complex residues of modulus about 1.4, so the order-three approximant is not itself a Stieltjes function; an exact Sturm-count diagnostic decides real-rootedness for given data, while the factor-four test is only sufficient (numerical illustrations; exact diagnostic)."
