"oneLine": "In Tullock contests with convex costs, players who repeatedly move part of the way towards their best reply reach the unique equilibrium even when expensive players drop out, answering the zero-floor question left open by Elkind, Ghosh and Goldberg (2024).",
"abstract": "In a Tullock (lottery) contest each player wins with probability equal to its share of total effort and pays a private convex cost. When every player repeatedly moves a common fraction of the way towards its best reply, Elkind, Ghosh and Goldberg (2024) proved convergence only under a positive minimum-effort floor, which prevents expensive players from withdrawing and so changes the equilibrium, and left the floorless case open. This candidate proves convergence with no floor: for sufficiently small constant steps (with geometric decay of the Nikaido–Isoda gap) and for every vanishing step sequence with divergent sum, from any finite start with at least two positive efforts, with nonsmooth costs and zero marginal cost at zero allowed. The new ingredient is that every player's combined rival effort stays above an explicit positive constant from an explicit time, even when individual efforts tend to zero. Harmonic steps give a gap of order 1/k, exactly of that order when a strictly inactive player starts with positive effort. Corollaries cover concave impact functions (with damping in impact units) and unit-elastic Cournot partial adjustment, and local thresholds 4/n and 8ab/(a+b)^2 show that any uniform step must shrink with the number of players and cost heterogeneity. The certified step is extremely conservative. AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",
