  "url": "https://evidencepress.org/releases/reverse-erasure-entropy-contraction/",
  "oneLine": "The worst-case entropy loss of reverse erasure depends only on the rarest symbol, which settles a complete-bipartite conjecture.",
  "abstract": "Caputo, Chen, Gu and Polyanskiy (2025) conjectured that one step of the half-lazy random walk on the complete bipartite graph K_{n,n} keeps at most the fraction log n / (2 log 2n) of relative entropy, with single vertices as the only worst starts, and proved the case n = 3 with computer assistance. This candidate proves the conjecture for every n, and for K_{m,n} with M = max(m, n). One step of the walk splits into two copies of the reverse-erasure channel: keep the current symbol with probability α, otherwise redraw it from a prior ρ. For this channel the relative-entropy contraction coefficient depends on the prior only through its smallest atom q, at every α. Up to the sharp threshold α = q^{q/(1−q)} it equals log(1/q)/log(1/(αq)), attained only at a rarest point input; the upper bound is a translation of a weighted mean inequality of Gao, and the uniform binary case is known (Nair and Wang; Zhao). Above the threshold the worst inputs are full-support exponential tilts and no closed form is given. Further results: a rank-one weighted extension that settles the lazy-star observation of Jadhav (2026); a reduction of any block-reset chain (any laziness, all powers, stars, multipartite graphs) to a chain with at most two states per block, whose values are then computed numerically; and the exact one-way agreement-distillation rate below the threshold. There is no mixing-time improvement: the spectral gap is 1/2. AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",
