"oneLine": "A quantum system reset at independent random times settles, for every gate and reset state, exactly when resets surely recur and are not locked to a lattice, even if the mean time between resets is infinite; imperfect resets reduce to complete ones under a checkable condition, and at the critical power-law hazard settling can take more than a billion steps.",
"abstract": "A quantum system evolves step by step and is occasionally reset; the times between resets are independent and may have an infinite mean. When does the averaged state settle down, and to what? Wald, Yao, Platini, Hooley and Carollo (Quantum, 2025) inferred from estimates and numerics that, for reset hazards γ/(n+1)^α, a steady state is expected for α < 1 and probably for α = 1, but not for α > 1; this paper proves rigorously what they inferred and identifies the limit. For complete resets in finite dimension, every waiting-time law is classified: the state converges for every gate and reset state exactly when resets surely recur and their times are not locked to a lattice, and the limit or surviving oscillation is identified in every other case, including defective clocks and distinct initial states. This part is a short consequence of classical renewal theory (Erdős–Feller–Pollard, Feller, Orey). For proper infinite-mean clocks and unitary dynamics on a separable Hilbert space, the trace-norm distance to the surviving pure-point orbit tends exactly to 1 − m_pp, the reset state's continuous spectral mass, and no trace-norm convergent subsequence exists unless that mass is zero. For imperfect resets described by a general jump channel that need not commute with the free evolution, the dynamics is asymptotically complete resetting to an effective state under a unit-circle nonresonance condition (W); (W) is characterised, decidable exactly for finitely supported clocks, open and dense, and extended to conserved observables. This is a sufficient condition, not a classification of all jump processes. For the critical hazard γ/(n+1), coherences decay like t^(−min{γ, 1−γ}) with an explicit uniform remainder, endpoint and near-resonance crossovers are described, small consecutive changes are shown not to certify proximity to the limit, no rate holds uniformly over clocks, and dephasing can require more than 10⁹ steps. Exact and floating-point finite computations corroborate the formulas and examples; they do not prove the limit theorems. AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",

"Complete resets in finite dimension: every renewal clock falls into one of four regimes; a clock makes every finite-dimensional unitary reset system converge if and only if it is proper and aperiodic, and every aperiodic infinite-mean clock gives the dephased state D_U(ρ). This is a short consequence of classical renewal theory (Theorems 2.1–2.2, 4.1, Propositions 4.2–4.3, proof).",
"Power hazard of Wald et al.: for r_n = γ/(n+1)^α with 0 < γ < 1, the state converges to a survival-weighted mixture for α < 1, to D_U(ρ) for α = 1, and for α > 1 approaches a rotating orbit that converges if and only if the reset state commutes with the gate (Corollary 2.3, proof).",
"Infinite dimension: for a proper infinite-mean clock and a unitary on a separable Hilbert space, the trace-norm distance to the surviving pure-point orbit tends to 1 − m_pp; a trace-norm convergent subsequence exists only if m_pp = 1 (Theorem 6.1, proof).",
"Jump channels: under the nonresonance condition (W), imperfect resetting with a possibly noncommuting jump channel is asymptotically complete resetting to an effective state ρ_eff in laboratory time; (W) is characterised at w = 1, for unital and unitary pairs, is open and dense, is decided exactly for finitely supported clocks, and extends to conserved observables. Sufficient but not necessary (Proposition 5.6 gives a counterexample to necessity); examples show what each hypothesis does (Theorems 5.1, 5.8, Proposition 5.3, Lemma 5.4, Propositions 5.5–5.7, proof).",
"Critical clock r_n = γ/(n+1): coherences decay like t^(−min{γ,1−γ}) with an explicit remainder uniform in γ; endpoint and near-resonance crossovers; consecutive increments are much smaller than the distance to the limit for γ > 1/2; no rate holds uniformly over clocks (Theorems 7.1, 7.5, 7.6, 8.1, Proposition 7.4, proof).",
    "Time scales: from the two-term asymptotics, coherence at z = −1 stays below 1% only after about 6.4 × 10³ steps at γ = 1/2 and about 2.3 × 10⁹ steps at γ = 0.2 or 0.8 (Table 4, numerical estimates)."
