  "url": "https://evidencepress.org/releases/hyperbolic-sliced-wasserstein-completion/",
  "oneLine": "Geodesic sliced Wasserstein distance on hyperbolic space is exactly a weak-convergence metric on the compact closed Klein ball: it has an exact diameter, barely sees depth far from the centre, gives squared distance π·α between boundary points at angle α in two dimensions, and can be estimated at optimal rates with no assumptions on the data.",
  "abstract": "Data such as trees, hierarchies and networks are often embedded in hyperbolic space, and geodesic hyperbolic sliced Wasserstein distance (Bonet et al., 2023) compares two such data clouds cheaply by projecting them onto geodesics through a fixed centre and averaging one-dimensional transport costs. This candidate determines exactly what that distance measures. In the Klein ball each projection is atanh(v·z), and its angular moments stay uniformly bounded even at the ideal boundary. Hence, for every dimension d ≥ 2 and 1 ≤ p < ∞, the distance extends with no moment assumption to all probability measures; its completion is the space of probability measures on the compact closed Klein ball, it metrises weak convergence there, and its diameter is exactly 2C_{d,p}^{1/p}. Mass escaping to infinity converges to the boundary sphere instead of disappearing, so the distance cannot control hyperbolic transport moments and is exponentially insensitive to depth far from the centre, with exact radial rates. The induced metric on the boundary sphere is found in every dimension: squared distance π·α in two dimensions, (1/2)α² log(1/α) behaviour in three, and comparable to α² from four on. An explicit function shows that the vanishing-at-infinity assertion of Proposition 19 in Bonet, Drumetz and Courty (JMLR 2025) fails. Sampling error obeys distribution-free n^(-1/2) bounds for the powered loss, in expectation and with high probability, at minimax-optimal rates; adding one radial Wasserstein term gives a complete metric with the usual hyperbolic Wasserstein topology. The separation mechanism is credited to Lyons (2014). AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",

    "Compact completion (Theorem 2.3): for d ≥ 2 and 1 ≤ p < ∞, geodesic hyperbolic sliced Wasserstein distance extends with no moment assumption; its completion is the space of probability measures on the compact closed Klein ball, it metrises weak convergence there, and its diameter is exactly 2C_{d,p}^{1/p} (π in the plane for p = 2).",
    "Correction (Proposition 3.1): for g(t,v) = sech²t the geodesic backprojection equals 1 − tanh²r/d, which tends to 1 − 1/d at infinity, so the C₀ claim of Proposition 19 in Bonet, Drumetz and Courty (JMLR 2025) fails.",
    "Depth insensitivity (Theorem 4.1, Corollary 4.2): the squared distance between a point at depth r and its boundary point decays like e^{−(d−1)r}, r e^{−2pr} or e^{−2pr} according as d − 1 is below, equal to or above 2p; far-out points on one ray are exponentially close however far apart they are.",
    "Boundary geometry (Proposition 4.3, Theorem 4.4): for p = 2 the squared distance between boundary points at angle α is exactly πα when d = 2, behaves like (1/2)α² log(1/α) when d = 3, and is comparable to α² with limit constant (d−2)/((d−1)(d−3)) when d ≥ 4.",
    "Estimation and repair (Theorems 5.1, 5.2, Corollary 5.3, Theorem 6.1): distribution-free sampling error n^{−1/2} for the powered loss in expectation and with high probability, minimax-optimal rates n^{−1/2} and n^{−1/(2p)}; adding one radial Wasserstein term gives a complete metric with the usual hyperbolic Wasserstein topology."

Two scripts give floating-point sanity checks: 36 projection instances against direct minimisation, six quadratic angular constants against trigamma values, 12 backprojection evaluations, seven dilogarithm/boundary comparisons, 24 radial cases over eight (d,p) pairs, ten exact binomial sums, Legendre coefficients, the d = 3 series against quadrature, the d ≥ 4 small-angle constant and a near-critical radial constant. Both scripts were replayed with and without Python -O from fresh copies with byte-identical outputs; a corrupted boundary identity is rejected under -O; GitHub CI reruns both on Linux.
