"oneLine": "For m copies of a pure single-mode Gaussian state, no Gaussian measurement beats combining the copies into one bright output and measuring every output by homodyne detection; the exact optimum is a one-angle formula.",
"abstract": "A small change in a light beam can be read off by measuring field quadratures. With only Gaussian measurements, measuring m identical copies jointly can give more Fisher information than measuring them one by one, as Navarro, Morelli, Sanz and Mehboudi showed with an interferometer that concentrates the changing mean into one bright output; they left open which Gaussian measurement is best for a finite number of copies. For every smooth one-parameter family of pure single-mode Gaussian states and every m, this candidate proves that the maximum Fisher information over all fixed Gaussian measurements, including ancilla-assisted schemes, equals (m−1)λ²/2 + max over φ of [2m(a cos φ + b sin φ)² + (λ²/2) cos² 2φ], in normalised coordinates where (a, b) is the rate of change of the mean and λ that of the squeezing. It is attained by the concentration interferometer, homodyne detection of the dark outputs along a fixed axis and one optimised homodyne angle on the bright output. The same argument gives the exact optimum when measurement-seed squeezing is capped, an exact formula for the shortfall from the quantum Fisher information (nondecreasing in m, at most λ²/2 in total, with an explicit limit), and a necessary and sufficient condition for joint measurement to help. The interferometer is due to Navarro et al.; the new part is the finite-copy upper bound and its consequences. AI-assisted, unrefereed candidate; no external peer review, independent reproduction or formal verification is claimed.",
